Zola M. Gaffney - Mar. 25, 1918 - Aug. 4, 2003
Zola M. Gaffney, age 85, of Storm Lake died Monday, August 4, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Zola M. Gaffney was born March 25, 1918, in Lohrville, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ida (Lovett) Gaffney. She attended country school near the family farm in Calhoun County. The family moved to Carroll in 1932 where Zola attended school until moving to Storm Lake in 1935. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1936.
Zola was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Guild and had retired after working for 20 years at the S & M Store in Storm Lake and then for 20 years at Paxton’s Jewelry in Storm Lake. She will be remembered for her quick Irish wit.
She is survived by a sister, Joan Young, Omaha, Nebraska, a brother John Gaffney and his wife, Dolores, Storm Lake, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Gaffney, Storm Lake, and by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, James Joseph Gaffney and Richard Gaffney and by a sister, Mary Cavanaugh.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Storm Lake, with Reverend Bruce Lawler officiating.
Friends may call on Thursday after 3 p.m., at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home where there will be a parish scripture service at 7:30 p.m. The family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
