Robert E. “Bob” Reis - Nov. 26, 1931 - Aug. 5, 2003
Robert E. “Bob” Reis, age 71, of Storm Lake died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake following a lengthy illness.
Robert Eugene Reis was born November 26, 1931, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Bernard M. and Erna G. (Engle) Reis. He graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School in Fonda. He served in the military for 11 years, first during the Korean War in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant and later as a member of the Iowa National Guard.
On April 28, 1956, he married Evelyn M. “Evie” Braun at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. She died on December 13, 1982. On October 17, 1986, Bob married Judith A. “Judy” Wagner Pullen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The couple celebrated their wedding with a public dance, the last one ever held at the Cobblestone in Storm Lake.
Bob worked as an auto mechanic and auto shop service manager and later owned and operated The House of Woods in Storm Lake.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, past commander of Amvets Post #66, served on the board of directors of “The Red Barn” (now Genesis Development) and was a Little League Coach.
Bob retired from the Storm Lake Volunteer Fire Department after 25 years of service, 15 years as the Assistant Chief. He enjoyed camping, wood working and dancing. He will be remembered by his family as a loving and caring husband and father, for his great sense of humor, and for his love of his country.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Storm Lake, four sons: Mark Reis and his wife, Julie, and their children, Jennifer, Matthew and Amy of Altoona, Michael Reis and his wife, Tracy, of Des Moines, Curtis Reis and his wife, Connie, and their children, Caycee and Christopher of Storm Lake, and Daniel Reis and his fiancée, Judy King of Des Moines, a daughter, Karin Reis of Storm Lake, three step-daughters; Deborah Struthers and her husband, Steve, and their daughter Rebecca of Storm Lake, Joanne Brinkman and her husband, Robert, and their children, Jacob, Thomas and Samuel of Rolfe and Kathleen (Kathy) Smith and her husband, Peter, and their children, Amanda, Tyler, Garrett, Kayla and Emma of Crete, NE. Also surviving is a step-great granddaughter, Leah Burleigh, a brother, Dale Reis and his wife, Bev, of Fonda, a sister, Marge Cramer, of Indianola along with numerous other extended family members and friends.
Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 9th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial with full military honors by Amvets Post #66 will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, rural Storm Lake.
Friends may call at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake any time after 3:00 p.m. on Friday where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Legion of Mary Rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a parish scripture service at 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
