Bernard Dick - Dec. 23, 1918 - Aug. 28, 2003

Bernard Dick, age 84, died Thursday, August 28, 2003, at the Methodist Manor Nursing Home in Storm Lake following a lengthy illness.

Bernard Dick was born on December 23, 1918, to John and Magdalena (Schmitt) Dick at Schaller, Iowa. He spent his childhood with his parents in the Schaller community, attending school there through the 10th grade.

On September 30, 1944, Bernard was united in marriage to Marcella Koenck at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Iowa. He farmed many years south of Storm Lake, worked as a mechanic for the Volkswagen dealership and was employed in maintenance at the Pamida and Alco stores in Storm Lake.

Bernard loved his family and greatly enjoyed family get-togethers. He liked to travel with his family and friends. Bernard delighted in gardening and had a real green thumb. He loved horses and dogs; one dog in particular was like a best friend to him.

Survivors include his wife Marcella of Storm Lake and his sister Mary Miller of Storm Lake, and nieces and nephews: Luella and Bill Smith, Francis and Kay Dick, Marguerite and Gene Huelman, Kenneth and Pat Miller, Jeanette and Ray Vacek, Lois Miller, Louise and Carroll Bohaty, Maxine and Jim McCarthy, Jean and Dave Hadden, Joan and Jim Snyder, Sheryl and Jim Roling, Sharon Knebel, Barbara and Dave Hoban, Robert and Merilee Dick, Donna Jean Moe, Jim and Pat Dick, Ray Dick, Roy and Sally Dick, Diane and Don Iverson, Mary and Eric Lind and Melissa Dick; and many extended cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Henry, Frank, Alfred, John and Leo; and by his nephews Linus Dick and Roger Miller.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 30, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, with Father Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. on Friday at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake where the family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a parish scripture service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
