James R. Lowe - Jan. 22, 1927 - May 16, 2005

James Robert Lowe, age 78, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died Monday, May 16, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

James Robert Lowe was born on January 22, 1927 at Sioux Rapids, Iowa to Ross and Ethel (Eggelston) Lowe. He attended the Cornell School where he was active in baseball and basketball. He graduated in 1944.

James was a World War II veteran, serving with the 489th Port Battalion of the United States Army in Japan during the occupation. After his discharge from the Army, he returned home to farm with his parents on their farm near Sioux Rapids. James farmed until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing baseball on the Sioux Rapids town team.

James was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Inez Walrath of Ruthven, Iowa, Irene Hickman of Swanville, Minnesota, and Ernestine Lair of Buffalo, Minnesota; and two nephews: Clifford Hickman and David Lowe.

Survivors include his brother, Clarence, of Vancouver, Washington; many nieces and nephews and their families; and many friends.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the Sliefert Funeral Home Chapel in Sioux Rapids, with Pastor Tonna Parsons officiating.

Friends may call from one hour prior to the memorial service at the Sliefert Funeral Home Sioux Rapids, where the family will be present.
