LeeAnn Ihry - Nov. 5, 1960 - June 21, 2005

Lee Ann Ihry, age 44, of Storm Lake, Iowa passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

LeeAnn was born November 5, 1960 at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa to Eldon and Lola (Geary) Sassman. She grew up in her parents’ home on Ontario Street in Storm Lake, and received her education in the Storm Lake school system, first at South Elementary and then Storm Lake High School.

LeeAnn married and then divorced Tim Ihry and had a son, John, and then later a daughter, Stephanie. LeeAnn was a wonderful mother, who loved people and delighted in the time spent with her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cross-stitching, and fishing, but her family was always first on her list of priorities. She was a wonderful grandmother; her grandson brought her special joy.

After LeeAnn was diagnosed with cancer, she fought a courageous battle with the disease. She was grateful for the support of her family and friends during her illness and especially appreciated the care she received at the hospital. She noted in her recent journaling, “Hospitalized January 2005 and have received good care from the many employees at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center—went home May 4, 2005.” LeeAnn was baptized into the Lutheran faith on April 30, 2005 and a celebration of this special event was held in the company of her family and friends at BVRMC.

LeeAnn was employed as cafeteria manager at IBP in Storm Lake until 2004, when she was unable to continue working there due to her illness. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, treasured grandmother, a caring sister, a special aunt, and a valued friend—and she will be missed always.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, John Ihry of Storm Lake; her daughter, Stephanie Robison of Rolfe, Iowa; her grandson, Tyler Allen; her brother, Mike Sassman of Storm Lake; her sister Shari and husband Scott Knuths of Pocahontas, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.

Preceding LeeAnn in death were her parents, Eldon and Lola Sassman, her paternal grandparents, Ralph and Hazel Sassman and her maternal grandparents, Ralph and Hulda Geary.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 24, 2005 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
