June Olga (Walstead) Sundblad, age 96, of Albert City, Iowa, died Monday, August 22, 2005 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.
June was born August 15, 1909 to Harry and Ruth (Warme) Walstead on a ranch east of Forsyth, Montana, bordering on the Yellowstone River. She entered the first grade in Storm Lake and graduated from Albert City High School. Then she traveled with evangelists and was in charge of music and youth programs.
On May 25, 1929 June was united in holy matrimony to Walter Harold Sundblad in Longview, Washington. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Dean and Karen. God allowed June and Walter to celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary in May, 2004.
June was a faithful member of the Evangelical Free Church, active in music, playing the organ and piano. June and Walter opened their home over the years in both Iowa and Washington to Bible Studies and prayer groups.
June will be remembered as a loving wife, a devoted mother, a treasured grandmother, a dear great- and great-great-grandmother, a caring aunt and a valued friend.
Survivors include her son, Dean and wife Vivian Sundblad of Albert City; her daughter, Karen Kaye and husband Dale Mattson of Olga, Washington; grandchildren: Tom and wife Mary Sundblad of Iowa City, Iowa, Sally and husband Steve McPherson of Plano, Texas, Phil and wife Brenda Sundblad of Albert City, Doug and wife Sharon Mattson of Gig Harbor, Washington, and Kristin and husband Phillip Suarez of Seattle, Washington; great-grandchildren: Nathan and wife Sara Sundblad, Mindy and husband Greg Lybeck, Ben and Dawson McPherson, Luke and Craig Sundblad, Eric and Cameron Mattson and Zane and Marley Suarez; two great-great-grandchildren, Chloe and Isaac Lybeck; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Oscar and Nellie Sundblad, Clarence Larson and June Marie Sundblad; and other extended family members and many friends.
Preceding June in death were her husband, Walter; her parents; her brother, St. Clair Walstead; and great-grandson David Mattson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City, with Reverend Steven Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery at Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2005, where the family will be present.
