Raymond F. Bjork - Aug. 30, 1916 - Aug. 22, 2005

Raymond F. Bjork, age 88, of Albert City, Iowa died Monday, August 22, 2005 at Pleasant View Manor in Albert City.

Raymond Frederick Bjork was born on August 30, 1916 at Marathon, Iowa. He spent his youth in the Marathon and Albert City areas, attending school at Marathon. Ray was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Albert City, where he was a faithful member until the time of his death.

Ray was inducted into the United States Army in January of 1942, where he served his country with honor. He was awarded four bronze stars for service in the Phillipine Liberation, Papuan, New Guinea and the East Indies. He was honorably discharged on May 23, 1945.

Ray was united in marriage to Helen Arnesen on September 7, 1946 in St. Paul, Minnesota. They lived in Laurens in Iowa and Redwood Falls, St. Peter, Willmar and Preston in Minnesota, where Ray was employed doing masonry work on churches. He also worked for the State Hospital in St. Peter for 19 years as a mason. Following his retirement, Ray and Helen moved to Sunrise Village in Willmar, Minnesota, where they lived until Helen’s death on March 25, 1999. Ray then moved to Pleasant View Home in Albert City. He lived there until the time of his death.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Linnea and wife Marge Bjork of Preston, Minnesota; his sister, Dorothy and husband John Bultema of Richvale, California; a sister-in-law, Mildred Jordin of Spicer, Minnesota; and one brother-in-law, Rolf and wife Irma Arnesen of Spicer, Minnesota. Ray is also survived by many nieces and nephews, other extended family members and many friends.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, and one brother, Carl.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 25, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. at the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Albert City, with Reverend David Bernhardt officiating. Burial will be Friday, August 26, 2005 at 1:15 p.m. in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church until service time.
