Hilda Odor - Jan. 9, 1909 - Aug. 28, 2005

Hilda Odor, age 96, of Rembrandt, Iowa, died Sunday, August 28, 2005 at UpJohn Community Care Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Hilda Corrinne Hegna was born January 9, 1909 on a farm two miles west and two miles south of Rembrandt, Iowa. Hilda was the daughter of Lenora Mathilda Berger and Halvor Hegna.

Hilda was baptized and confirmed in the Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Church west of Rembrandt. Her mother passed away during the flu epidemic in 1918, leaving her father, Halvor, to care for Hilda, one sister and four brothers. It was a large responsibility, so it was at this time that Hilda’s aunt Anna (Berger) Mosbo came to help care for the family until her marriage to Ole Mosbo. For the next four years, Hilda continued to help care for her younger brothers and sister while attending Rembrandt School, from which she graduated in 1927.

In 1931, Hilda married Glenn Odor at the Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Church. To this union were born three daughters: Delores, Carol and Lenora.

In 1938, Glenn, Hilda and their two daughters moved to Salem, Oregon, where they worked and resided for the next years. During that period of time, their third daughter, Lenora, was born. In 1948 the family returned to Rembrandt.

Hilda was active in the church, teaching Sunday School as well as participating in Ladies Aid, Circle and various other activities during her long-standing membership. Hilda could be found on Wednesday afternoons sewing on quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Hilda also enjoyed sewing for her three daughters. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Blessed be her memory.

Hilda was preceded in death by Glenn, her husband of 62 years, in 1993; her parents; her sister, Dorothy C. Calvird; and four brothers: Arthur, Herman, Orville and Ernest.

Survivors include her daughters: Delores (Mrs. Jack McGrew) of Aguanga, California, Carol (Mrs. Howard Clapp)of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Mrs. Lenora Peterson of Lincoln, Washington; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Rembrant, with Reverend Durwood Clausen officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Valley Cemetery in Rembrandt, under the direction of the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Friends may call on Friday, September 2, 2005 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present.
