Evert J. Danielson - Sept. 4, 1919 - Aug. 31, 2005

Evert Joseph Danielson, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Albert City, Iowa, died August 31, 2005 at Lake Point Villa in Storm Lake.

Evert was born September 4, 1919 in Albert City. His parents were Emil Emmanuel and Hulda Charlotte (Peterson) Danielson. He was baptized and confirmed in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City, where he remained a faithful member until his death.

Evert graduated from Albert City High School in 1937. He entered military service on February 4, 1941, spending four years and four and one-half months in the United States Army. Evert spent two and one-half years of that time overseas during World War II, participating in three invasions: Casablanca, Morocco, Africa; D-Day in Sicily; and D-Day plus two on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France. Evert was a Staff Sergeant and earned the Bronze Star for leadership and bravery, as well as seven major battle stars. He was in the Second Armored Division (tanks) and this division earned the Presidential Citation. He was discharged June 15, 1945.

In 1946 Evert went into the petroleum business when his father passed away, and he continued as an independent businessman until he retired in 1981.

Evert and Ruby V. Movall were married on January 25, 1948 and were privileged to remain married for 57 years. They had three children: Kathryn, Duane and Elaine.

Evert served on the Albert City Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years, serving as First Assistant Fire Chief for seven years and Fire Chief for 17 years. He was instrumental in getting a Buena Vista Hospital Ambulance stationed in Albert City and was an E.M.T. for the Ambulance Service. Evert received the Governor’s Award in 1982 for Outstanding Community Service for Volunteer Firemen. Evert received the Good Neighbor Award in connection with the Iowa Community Betterment program in 1997. Evert has done volunteer work for the community, serving as a baseball coach for the young children. He belonged to the Young at Heart in Albert City, was a member of the American Legion Post 299, V.F.W. and Threshermen; a past member of the Lions Club, the Elks Club and the Albert City Chamber of Commerce. Evert was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and served on the church board for two terms, as well as performing other volunteer duties. Evert was a loving and caring husband and father, as well as a volunteer for the community.

Ruby and Evert spent the winters in Phoenix, Arizona for 18 years. He also was a fan of many sports, an avid golfer, card player, fisherman and enjoyed woodworking hobbies.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby; his children: Kathryn (Douglas) Jensen, Duane Danielson and Elaine (Jerry) Pepping; grandchildren: Deanne and Tom Danielson, Molly Jensen, Amy and Greg Pepping; sisters Vivian Swanson and Harriet Danielson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Lois Movall, Clarence and Wanette Movall, Verner and Arlene Movall, Barb Movall, Gladys and Don Heinecke; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.

Evert was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Jane Danielson; daughter-in-law Sana K. Danielson; brother-in-law Everette Swanson; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Alvin and Mildred Peterson, Frank Movall, Herbert and Dorothy Anderson and Raymond Movall.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Albert City, with Reverend David Bernhardt officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery at Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2005, where the family will be present.
