Adelle Sather - Dec. 9, 1914 - Sept. 3, 2005

Adelle Sather went to be with her Lord on September 3, 2005 at the age of 90 years, eight months and three days.

Adelle Pauline Lawrenz was born on December 9, 1914 to Minnie (Meinert) and Otto Lawrenz on a farm near Springfield, Minnesota. She grew up on the farm with her parents, brother Edwin and sister Edna. She attended a country parochial school a mile from her home, finishing the eighth grade. She then went to Springfield and lived with relatives during the week and worked to earn money at a café, also doing housework and working at a canning factory.

In May 1941 she met Victor Sather when they were both attendants in Vic’s brother and Adelle’s cousin’s wedding. They became engaged on February 12, 1942. In March, Vic left to serve in the Army during World War II. She waited for him until he came home in July 1945. They were married on August 12, 1945 in Springfield, Minnesota. They made their home in Franklin, Minnesota, where Vic was a banker and Adelle worked at the grocery store.

On September 16, 1950, they had a daughter, Gwenn Pauline. She married James H. Ehlers of Albert City, Iowa on September 2, 1972.

Adelle was a devoted wife and mother, always putting the wishes and well-being of her family first. She was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Franklin, teaching Sunday School and serving as an officer of Ladies Aid for many years. She was also active in Women’s Auxiliary.

Adelle loved to be outside doing yard work and having a garden and flowers. She made several quilts and enjoyed crocheting. As she was blessed with grandchildren, they became her pride and joy, visiting about once a month and keeping up on all of their activities as they grew up. She was very proud of them as they all grew up to be fine young adults, knowing and trusting in Jesus as she did.

In May of 2004, Vic and Adelle moved from their home of 59 years to Countryside Living, the independent living complex located in Albert City, to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law. She enjoyed being close and seeing family often as she encountered health problems.

Adelle is survived by her husband of 60 years, Vic; daughter Gwenn and husband Jim of Albert City; grandchildren Sonya Lynn and husband Jeff Veverka of Leawood, Kansas, Joel James Ehlers of Ankeny, Iowa and fiancée Jodi Peitzman of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Emily Pauline Ehlers of Albert City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Eddie and sister Edna Kettner; a niece, Marlys Kettner Berberick; and nephew Alan Arther, killed in the Viet Nam War.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 10:30 a. m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City, with Reverend Steven Smith officiating. Inurnment will be in the Franklin Cemetery at Franklin, Minnesota. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation.
