Shirley A. Otten - Jan. 30, 1929 - Sept. 2, 2005

Shirley A. Otten, age 76, of Linn Grove, Iowa died Friday, September 2, 2005 at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.

Shirley Ann Otten, daughter of Henry and Anna (Haroldson) Genson, was born January 30, 1929. Shirley was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Linn Grove, Iowa. She lived with her parents on a farm near Linn Grove, and graduated in 1946.

Shirley married Harold Leroy Otten on September 13, 1947 at the First Lutheran Church parsonage in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. To this union five children, Dennis, David, Greg, Sharee and Laurie, were born.

Shirley and Harold farmed in the Linn Grove area all their lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, a son David, and one granddaughter, Lisa McFarlane.

Her survivors include her sons, Dennis Otten and wife Kathy of Linn Grove, Iowa, and Greg Otten and wife Janet of Ogden, Iowa; daughters, Sharee Otten and husband Claude McFarlane of Madison, Wisconsin and Laurie Otten of Byron, Minnesota; one brother, Harlan Genson and wife Judy of Linn Grove, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Tim Otten and wife Shanda, Cory Bellinghausen and wife Jill, Kelli Bellinghausen, Kelly Otten and husband Michael Muhlena, Kami Otten and husband Sean Schafer, Aaron Otten, Kyle McFarlane and Laura McFarlane; great grandchildren: Kylie Ore, Matthew Quinn, Emma Schafer, Claire Schafer, Jack Schafer, Reece Muhlena, Collin Muhlena, Montana Kinter, Michaela Kinter and Miranda Bellinghausen; as well as extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa, with Reverend D. Duane Olson officiating. Burial will be in Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday, September 6, 2005, where the family will be present.
