Gary L. Boetel, age 68, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Sunday, September 18, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Gary LeRoy Boetel was born August 12, 1937 in Hartley, Iowa to William and Violet (Hansen) Boetel. He grew up in his parents’ home in Hartley, receiving his education in the Hartley school system and graduating from Hartley High School with the Class of 1955.
On February 15, 1958, Gary was united in marriage to Joan Hegna in Hartley. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Nanci and Kris. A son, Steven, died as an infant.
Gary, an accomplished tuba player, served in the United States Army as a member of the 392nd Army Band, stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia for the duration of his time in the military.
Gary enjoyed a successful career as a semi-truck driver. He most recently drove for Bil-Mar in Storm Lake, retiring in 2003. In his spare moments, Gary liked to go fishing, play cribbage and spend time on his computer. Gary was a loving husband and devoted father whose family always came first in his life.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joan of Storm Lake; daughters Nanci and husband Jerry Elder of DeSoto, Iowa and Kris Boetel of Mesa, Arizona; two granddaughters, Amanda Elder and Nicole Elder; sisters Delores and husband Don Wohlert of Morton, Illinois and Deb and husband David Perry of Calumet, Iowa; as well as extended family and many friends.
Gary was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven; his parents; brothers Roger and Russell; and his father-in-law Ernest Hegna.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley, Iowa.
Friends may call on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00.
