Vivian Berg - Jan. 16, 1921 - Apr. 27, 2008

Vivian Berg, age 87, of Albert City, Iowa, was received into God’s hands Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.

Vivian May White was born January 16, 1921 in Kasson, Minnesota, the daughter of Elmer T. and Stacy (Cardinal) White. She was baptized into the Methodist faith as an infant and she confirmed her faith as a youth. Vivian attended grade school at Kasson before her family moved to the Newell, Iowa area, where she graduated from Newell High School.

Vivian loved to dance and as a young woman attending a barn dance, she met a handsome young man who later became her husband. On June 2, 1941, Vivian was united in marriage to Leslie Arnold Berg. They farmed in Albert City for over 50 years before retiring to Sioux Rapids, Iowa. The couple was blessed with two children: Darold and Karen.

Vivian treasured her family and kept a warm and comfortable home for them. She was a wonderful gardener and was proud of the vegetables, fruits and flowers she grew. She really enjoyed raising baby chicks and ducks. Many of the farm animals, especially the cats and dogs became favored pets. Vivian was an accomplished seamstress, an avid bowler and she loved to play BINGO.

Vivian was an active, faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Marathon. She enjoyed her membership in the quilting club and the neighborhood card and social club. In addition to working on the family farm, Vivian was employed at the A.C. Café and at Buse Variety in Albert City. Her family was always her priority and she cherished the time she spent with them. Her kind and caring ways will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Those thankful for having shared in Vivian’s life include her son, Darold (Karen) Berg of Fort Dodge, Iowa; her daughter, Karen A. Berg of Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren: Jody (Kyle) Rupp of Gretna, Nebraska; Chad (Melissa) Berg of Littleton, Colorado; Ed Mauser of Flemington, New Jersey; Beth (Mike) Franzmeier of Rembrandt, Iowa; and six great-grandchildren: Aryn, Amanda, Dilyn and Bailey Berg, Savana Rupp and Cole Franzmeier; sisters: Violet Kuhn of Storm Lake, Iowa; Margie Gehrke of Pocahontas, Iowa; and Bonnie (Charlie) Witter of Newell, Iowa; sister-in-law Martha White of Newell; extended family and many friends.
