Richard H. Rudolph - Aug. 23, 1925 - Apr. 26, 2008

Richard H. Rudolph, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died of congestive heart failure on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Buena Vista Manor Care Center in Storm Lake.

Richard Herman Rudolph was born August 23, 1925 in Marshall County near State Center, Iowa, the son of Flavel and Malinda (Uhde) Rudolph. He was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. He attended the Marshalltown school. His mother, Malinda, died when Richard was 8 months old. His father left and joined the Navy, so Richard was raised by his maternal grandparents, Henry and Minnie Uhde, along with their 17 children.

Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on August 8, 1943. He was on Okinawa when World War II ended, was sent to Japan for occupation duty and was discharged June 16, 1946 at the rank of sergeant. He reenlisted on October 9, 1953 during the Korean Conflict and returned home on October 9, 1955. He was proud to be a Marine and a patriot his entire life.

Richard was employed at Lennox Industries for 42 years, first in the factory, then as a field service consultant, then in special wiring diagrams in the office. He retired in January of 1989.

On January 17, 1975, Richard married Marjorie Lullmann in Grand Island, Illinois. After his retirement, the couple moved to Storm Lake. They spent 11 winters in Mesa, Arizona. When his health started failing, they stayed in Storm Lake.

Richard enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, country music, western movies, horses and antique cars. He was a member of Elks Lodge #1636 and AmVets Post #66.

His first love was God, Country, his wife and family, in that order. He was a loving father, husband and grandfather.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Flavel and Malinda Rudolph; his maternal grandparents, Henry and Minnie Uhde; and his paternal grandparents, Jacob and Tracy Rudolph.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Marjorie of Storm Lake; a daughter, Gayle (Robert) Matson of Homosassa, Florida; granddaughter, Jennifer Keahna of Ankeny, Iowa; great-granddaughter Alexandria and great-grandson Roman; step-son Wesley Johnson and step-grandson Wesley Johnson III, both of Columbia, Pennsylvania, several cousins, extended family and many friends.

Memorial services for Mr. Rudolph will be held Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The family was present at the funeral home to greet friends prior to the start of the service. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. AMVETS Post 66 of Storm Lake will perform military rites at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a future date.
