Jane C. Pickrel - Mar. 20, 1921 - May 25, 2008

Jane C. Pickrel, age 87, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the Sioux Care Center at Sioux Rapids, Iowa.

Jane Catherine Lutes, the daughter of James and Gladys (Keebler) Lutes, was born at Omaha, Nebraska, on March 20, 1921. Jane’s mother, Gladys, was a descendant of the Keeblers who owned the original Keebler Biscuit Company which is the present day Keebler Bakery. Jane lived her youth and received her education in Omaha.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Pickrel on December 5, 1948, at Omaha, Nebraska. Jane was the mother of two daughters, Carol and Kay. Following their marriage, Jane and Ray resided at Elk Horn, Iowa, for 10 years where they owned and operated a locker business. They then resided in California, and Kimbalton, Harlan, Spencer, and Sioux City, Iowa, and were engaged in various business ventures. They came to make their home in Sioux Rapids in 1968. Ray died on July 17, 1977, but Jane continued to reside in Sioux Rapids. Since November, 2007, she had been a resident of the Sioux Care Center. Jane enjoyed traveling and she had many birdfeeders in her lawn and enjoyed watching the birds. She had a special affinity for cardinals. She enjoyed all of nature and she especially cherished the times she could fellowship with her many friends. Throughout her lifetime, Jane had participated in various card clubs. She was affiliated with the First United Church of Sioux Rapids.

Those who will always cherish their memories of Jane include her daughter: Kay Pigelow of Lakeview Terrace, California, her step-son: Donald Barrows of Cecil, Wisconsin, six grandchildren, three step grandchildren, several great grandchildren, two special friends: Mary Mogster and Marge Johnson, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray, her daughter, Carol, in 2002, her brother, Ken Lutes, and a step-grandson.

Services for Jane will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 10:00a.m. at the First United Church of Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arranements.
