Pearl Jean Ball - May 13, 1938 - June 15, 2008

Pearl Jean Ball, age 70, of Greenville, Iowa, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Pearl Jean Holmberg was born on May 13, 1938 at the home of her parents in rural Clay County, near Dickens, Iowa. She was the fifth of seventh daughters born to Nels and Julia (Anderson) Holmberg. Jean received her education in the Greenville-Rossie schools and graduated from Greenville-Rossie High School.

Jean met Edward H. Ball in 1955 and they began courting one another while Edward was finishing his tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Korean conflict. On November 30, 1956, Jean and Edward were joined in marriage in Jackson, Minnesota. They resided on a farm north of Linn Grove, Iowa, where they began their family. They were blessed with five children: Debra, Wayne, Charles, Roger and Sherry. In 1960, Edward and Jean moved to Spencer, Iowa. In 1964, they moved to Milford, Iowa.

Jean was a stay-at-home mother until her youngest child went to school. After that, Jean started working for Percy Toft at the Green Lantern in Milford. In 1975, they decided to try the country life and moved to rural Royal, Iowa. Jean continued to drive to her employment in Milford for awhile, but then she went to work at the Country Kitchen in Spencer as a dinner cook. After that she was employed at Hy-Line International in Spencer, where she worked until 1989. In 1991, Ed and Jean decided to move to Marbury, Alabama, where Jean found employment with Sandy’s Bent and Dent. In 1991, she went on to become a bus aid for handicapped children, which she enjoyed very much. Upon retirement, Edward and Jean decided to move back to Iowa, and in 2004 they purchased a home in Greenville.

Jean enjoyed baking for her family and any kind of family gathering, gardening and flowers, going to the casinos with Ed, fishing, and playing cards with her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Ball of Greenville; her loving children: Debra J. (W. B. Toney) of Marbury, Alabama; Wayne R. (Colleen) Ball of Madison, Ohio; Charles E. (Missy Sauffer) Ball of Owatonna, Minnesota; Roger D. (Linda) Ball of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; Sherry K.
