Rachel J. Scott - Apr. 22, 1934 - June 18, 2008

Rachel J. Scott, age 74, of Spencer, Iowa, and formerly Albert City and Storm Lake, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Rachel Joan Beckfield, the daughter of Walter and Alice Beckfield, was born on April 22, 1934, at Cherokee, Iowa. Rachel was baptized into the Lutheran faith. She was an only child and spent her youth at Albert City, Iowa, graduating from the Albert City High School in 1952.

On February 14, 1954, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Hulsebus and this couple was blessed with two sons: Michael and Gary. Their marriage was dissolved after eight years. She later married Dan Scott, who had four children, and together they enjoyed their six children. Throughout her lifetime, Rachel resided at Cherokee, Storm Lake, and Spencer. She became a resident of the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa in 1987, where she enjoyed many friendships. In June 1995, she came to make her home at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Rachel loved going to church and she enjoyed singing. She cherished being able to do acts of love for her family.

Rachel is survived by her son: Michael Hulsebus of Perry, Iowa; her four step-children: Linda Lamoureaux of Colorado, Dan H. Scott of Wyoming, Mark B. Scott of Colorado, and Katherine Abekadaire of New York City, New York; her grandchildren: Gary Hulsebus of Los Angeles, California, Chris Hulsebus of Granger, Iowa, Curtis Sawyer who is stationed in Iraq, and Kelli Hulsebus of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Gary.

Services for Mrs. Scott will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Pastor Tom Hinshaw will officiate. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

A visitation will be held for one hour at the funeral home prior to the start of the funeral service.
