Margaret R. Carnine, age 76, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Margaret was born May 25, 1932 in Allamakee County, near Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of William and Vernetta (Kruse) Stehr. She was baptized as an infant at the United Church of Christ – Wheatland, near New Albin, Iowa and later confirmed her faith in the same church. Margaret received her education through the eighth grade in country school in Allamakee County.

On June 19, 1952, Margaret was married to James E. Carnine at the United Church of Christ – Wheatland, near New Albin. The couple was blessed with four children: Dawn, Bill, Clark and Zona.

Margaret loved her family and enjoyed keeping a warm and comfortable home for them. She liked crocheting and needlework, and she enjoyed collecting figurines. Watching birds was one of her favorite pastimes. She was always ready to play a game of cards with her friends and family. Margaret cultivated a beautiful garden of flowers which she was happy to share with others. An avid fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball team, Margaret tried to watch as many games as possible. Her family was always her first priority and she treasured the times she spent with her children and grandchildren. Her caring ways will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Bill (Kim) Carnine and Clark (special friend Janice Cosgrove) Carnine, both of Ida Grove, Iowa; daughter Zona Dixson (fiancé Brad Wetherell) of Marcus, Iowa; grandchildren: Billy Carnine, Heather Short, Ryan (Amanda) Short, Travis Short, James Carnine, and Justin Dixson; sister Althea Eickhoff of Glendale, Arizona; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim, in 1993; her infant daughter, Dawn; and her daughter-in-law, Debra.

Funeral services for Mrs. Carnine will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend David Koehler officiating. Burial will be in Wheatland Cemetery at New Albin, Iowa at a later date. The Sliefert Funeral Home Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation.
