Leroy M. Peck - May 26, 1925 - June 25, 2008

Leroy M. Peck, age 83, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital at Pocahontas, Iowa.

Leroy Martin Peck, the son of Benjamin and Martha (Ludwig) Peck, was born at Anthon, Iowa, on May 26, 1925. Leroy lived his youth in the Anthon and Quimby areas and received his education at Quimby. Following his education, Leroy worked in the construction business installing natural gas pipelines. He served his country during World War II, entering the United States Army on November 6, 1945 and receiving his honorable discharge on January 25, 1947.

Leroy was united in marriage to Edna Huseman in 1947 and this couple was blessed with two sons, Benny and Benjamin. Leroy and Edna resided in Cherokee where he became manager of the creamery. They came to make their home in Albert City in 1969 where Leroy was employed as a tank wagon driver for the local co-op for over 25 years, retiring in 1989. Edna died on June 26, 1985, after which time Leroy continued to make his home in Albert City.

Leroy was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of rural Storm Lake, Iowa, the Cherokee V.F.W., a lifetime member of the Alta V.F.W. Post # 6172, and the Albert City American Legion. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and also liked to tinker with lawnmowers, tractors, cars and small engines.

Those who will always cherish his memory include his son and daughter-in-law,Benny and Maren Peck of Albert City, Iowa; his three grandsons: Chad, Matthew and David Peck; three great-grandchildren: Erin, Connor and Lindsay; his sister, Arlene Konopsis of Sugarland, Texas; other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edna, his son, Benjamin, three infant grandsons, one brother, Francis, and an infant brother, Richard

Services for Mr. Peck will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, Iowa. Reverend Stephen Kieser will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City, where the family will be present for the entire visitation.
