Wayne C. Thieman - Aug. 8, 1921 - Nov. 14, 2008

Wayne C. Thieman, age 87, of Albert City, Iowa, died on Friday, November 14, 2008, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Wayne Charles Thieman, the son of Charles and Caroline (Blohm) Thieman, was born on the family farm in rural Newell, Iowa, on August 8, 1921. Wayne lived his youth and received his education at Albert City, graduating from the Albert City High School in 1939. Following graduation, Wayne attended Iowa State University in Ames for one year. On September 6, 1942, Wayne entered into active duty in the United States Navy where he faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge on November 4, 1945. Wayne completed his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree.

Wayne was united in marriage to June Kischer on November 14, 1944, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City and this marriage was blessed with three children: Jon, Kent, and Kay. He devoted his lifetime to the education of students and began his teaching profession at Washta, Iowa. Wayne also taught students at Sulphur Springs, Fairview country school, Alta, and he concluded his teaching career at Albert City. Wayne and June moved to the Thieman family farm in 1949 and enjoyed raising their family there. During the fall of 2005, Wayne and June became residents of the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Those who will always cherish their memories of Wayne include his wife of 64 years, June, of Albert City, Iowa, his three children and their spouses: Jon and Kelly Thieman of Edgewood, Washington, Kent and Shelly Thieman of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Kay and Wade Little of Hudson, Colorado, his grandchildren: Abby and Brad Beane of North Liberty, Iowa, Nicholas and Lauren Thieman of Powell, Ohio, and Alex and Alyson Thieman, both of Auburn, Washington, other relatives and many friends and students throughout the country who were privileged to have had Wayne as their teacher.

Wayne was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the American Legion. When he was younger, Wayne enjoyed golfing and fishing and throughout his lifetime, he proudly collected all types of Thieman Harvestor farm equipment and machinery.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church in rural Albert City, Iowa. Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in rural Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Albert City is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 17, 2008, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family present during that time at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City.
