Dorothy N. Nordlund, age 83, of Albert City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Dorothy Naomi Johnson, the daughter of Art T. and Elva (Moline) Johnson, was born on October 10, 1925, at her family farm southwest of Albert City. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Dorothy lived her youth and received her education in Albert City, graduating from Albert City High School. After completing high school, Dorothy attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, for one year and continued her education at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, where she completed her nursing degree. Dorothy’s first employment was with Hovenden Hospital in Laurens, Iowa.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Roland Nordlund on February 15, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, and this marriage was blessed with five children: James, Dianne, Shari, Randy, and Julie. Roland and Dorothy raised their children on the family farm. Dorothy’s early nursing career was spent as an emergency room nurse at the Buena Vista Hospital in Storm Lake. She then began her 32 year career with the Pleasant View Home in Albert City where she was director of nurses for two years and served as the nursing home’s administrator for 30 years, retiring in September of 1997. Dorothy will be admirably remembered for her diligent work ethic and compassion for both the residents and employees of the nursing home. Many employees who worked for Dorothy are still employed at the Pleasant View Home where she will be greatly missed.

Dorothy was a member of the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Albert City and the Federated Women’s Club. Music, gardening, and reading were all special interests of Dorothy’s. When her daughters were younger, Dorothy served as a Brownie leader. Dorothy’s family was very important to her and she cherished the times she could spend with them. She was a proud grandmother and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
