Lois (Guiver) Jones, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died August 4, 2009 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
Lois Mae Porter, the daughter of Glen and Marie (McConkey) Porter, was born on a farm near Storm Lake, Iowa, on October 21, 1926. At the age of seven, Lois moved with her family to a farm near Rembrandt where she lived her youth. She received her education at Rembrandt where she received her high school diploma.
On September 19, 1946, Lois was united in marriage to Bert Guiver at the United Methodist Church in Rembrandt, and this couple was blessed with one son, Larry. Bert was a master electrician, and he and his family followed the REA as they provided electricity to communities in South Dakota. They moved to Platte, South Dakota, in 1949 and resided there until he sold his business in 1981. Lois and Bert retired to Alamo Palms, Texas, in 1981. Bert died on February 24, 1988. Lois remained in Alamo Palms for several years and moved to Storm Lake in 1991. In January, 2005, she was united in marriage to Lewis Jones. Lois became a resident of the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in November of 2007.
Lois was a member of the Rembrandt United Methodist Church. In her leisure time, Lois made many beautiful latch hook rugs that she was very proud of. Other special interests of hers included reading, doing yard work when she was able, and playing various card games.
Lois’ life and memory will be cherished by her husband, Lewis, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Cheryl Guiver of Salt Lake City, Utah; her step-daughter and her husband Dorothy Ann and Robert Brummer of Albert City, Iowa; her grandchildren: Glen and Tammy Guiver, Marshal and Jessie Guiver, Matthew Guiver and Troy and Sarah Engh all of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kerry and Bryan Amendt of Spencer, Iowa; 10 great grandchildren; other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Bert, and one brother, Franklin Porter.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place on Friday, August 7, 2009 from 6-8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
