Virgil L. Heuton - July 1, 1920 - July 26, 2009

Virgil L. Heuton, age 89, of Rembrandt, Iowa died July 26, 2009 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Virgil Louie Heuton, son of Louie and Ada (Bushman) Heuton, was born on July 1, 1920, one mile west of Glidden, Iowa. He was baptized at the Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden and he was later confirmed on April 1, 1934 at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Glidden.

On February 15, 1942, he married Leta Bush at the St. John Lutheran Church in rural Glidden. Together they lived in the Glidden area where Virgil farmed, until 1956 when they moved to Florida.

In 1968 he moved to Audubon, Iowa and then in 1971 he moved to Storm Lake, Iowa where he was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Wherever he lived, he was active in a Lutheran Church.

Following Leta’s death in 1979, he married Gladys Liebsch. Together they lived on the farm in Scott Township.

Virgil enjoyed traveling and working in the yard and garden. He also loved the country living.

God called Virgil home on July 26, 2009. Left to mourn are his wife Gladys of Rembrandt, Iowa; his son, Virgil Jr. and his wife Toni of Lakeland Florida; his daughter, Barbara and husband Ben Cheshire of Leesburg, Georgia, son Steven of Florida and son Mark of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great – great grandchildren; two brothers, Merle (Grace) Heuton of Florida and Delbert (Eva) Heuton of Carroll, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Mildred Heuton of Des Moines, Iowa; many relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death are his first wife, Leta; his daughters, Beverly and Judith; his son Stanley; his brother Arnold.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
