Richard G. Andrews - July 22, 1934 - Aug. 09, 2009

Richard G. Andrews, age 75, of Galva, Iowa, died Sunday, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Richard Glen Andrews was born July 22, 1934 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of George and Emily (Godden) Andrews. Richard graduated from Truesdale High School. Following graduation, he farmed with his father on the farm north of
Storm Lake.

Richard served in the United States Navy spending much of his time overseas aboard the USS Pinnacle. He was honorably discharged on March 8, 1962.

On November 26, 1955, Richard was united in marriage to Marjorie Sampers at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. This couple was blessed with six children: Michael, Julie, Joseph, Mary, Patrick and Carol.

After marriage, Richard and Marjorie moved to Alta where they lived and farmed for 25 years. Then, they moved to Richard’s father’s home near Storm Lake where they lived until they moved to Galva in 2003. Richard retired from farming and in 2001 he began working for Alta Implement. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Holstein, Iowa. He loved going to auctions and enjoyed being with his family and attending family gatherings.

Left to cherish his memory are his six children: Michael Andrews of Alta, Iowa; Julie Brown of Odebolt, Iowa; Joseph Andrews of Odebolt; Mary Jo Andrews of Newell, Iowa; Patrick (Annette) Andrews of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa and Carol Chicoine of Graettinger, Iowa; his grandchildren: Katherine and Jordan Brown, Kristine and Tyler Andrews, Lisa Bruns, Amanda, Robin, Melanie and Andrea Persoon, Bradley and Benjamin Andrews, Jeremiah Andrews, Zachary, Alexander and Emily Chicoine; his six great grandchildren: Laycee, Jaden, Erika, Gabriel, Symbre and Payton; his sister, Jane Benberg of Storm Lake; his special friend, Mary Agnes Flanigan of Storm Lake; extended family and many friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emily Andrews and his wife, Marjorie.

Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Holstein, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Holstein. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
