Norma Jeanne Johnson, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and formerly of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, died on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center at Storm Lake.
Norma Jeanne McDonald, the daughter of Loren and Gladys (Renville) McDonald, was born at Hale, Missouri, on June 29, 1922. She was baptized in 1934 at a Baptist Church in Hale, Missouri. Jeanne began her education in a country school near Avalon, Missouri and later completed her education at the Avalon Consolidated School, where she graduated from high school in 1940. She continued her education at the Jackson School of Business in Chillicothe, Missouri.
Jeanne was united in marriage to Marvin E. May on October 31, 1943, at Chillicothe, Missouri. The couple was blessed with two daughters: Marcia and Marilyn. Following their marriage, Jeanne and Marvin resided in Missouri before moving to Sioux Rapids, Iowa, in 1948. In 1950, they began their 19-year-long farming vocation north of Sioux Rapids. In addition to helping on the farm, Jeanne worked at the Bulletin-Press newspaper office in Sioux Rapids, was an Avon representative and worked for a time in a music store. Marvin died on January 22, 1972.

Jeanne was a talented pianist and played with the Cliff Lee and Rhythm Kings Band of Sioux Rapids for many years. She also took great pride in her rose garden that she tended in her yard and received great enjoyment from giving her roses as gifts to her family and friends. Jeanne also enjoyed playing cards and being a member of the Jolly Elders and Young at Heart Clubs. She was a member of the First United Church of Sioux Rapids, was a Sunday School teacher and served in various offices in the church. Jeanne’s family was an integral part of her life and she made many special memories for them, including her homemade rhubarb jam.
