Joanne Mary Huseman, age 72, of Newell, Iowa, died Friday, January 2, 2009, at Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.
Joanne Mary Hiller was born May 18, 1936 to Edward and Mildred (Pien) Hiller in Flandreau, South Dakota, which is where she was baptized in the Catholic Church. She graduated in 1954 from high school in Flandreau.
Joanne came to Albert City, Iowa to help her cousin Betty Jean babysit her children where, through her cousin Marvin Bauer, she met Donald Huseman. On December 2, 1956, Joanne and Donald were married at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa, where Joanne became a member and was confirmed. The couple was blessed with four children: Sheryl, Dar, Susan and Dean.
When first married they lived by Albert City, moved to a farm near Varina, Iowa and then to the Ed Porath farm outside of Newell. They moved to town in 1981. Over the years, Joanne helped Don with planting, harvesting, gardening along with being a housewife and mother. She was hauling corn or beans into town when she found a house for sale. This is the house she lived in until her death.
Joanne loved to play cards and belonged to a ladies’ card club. She and two very good friends, Connie Taylor of Newell and Diane Stearns of North Bend, Nebraska, learned to can together. Joanne loved to garden, cook, bake, and can fruits and vegetables with Don.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Donald; children: Sheryl Johnson, Dar Huseman and wife Tammy, Susan Huseman, Dean Huseman and wife Susan, Colleen Hansen and husband Ryan; grandchildren: Mary Bainbridge and husband Bob, Nichole Johnson and husband John, Joshua, Becky, Brent. Rick, Ronnie, Jessie, Tiffany, Chris, Kelly, Katie, and Josey; in-laws: Marvin and Grace Bauer, and Herb and Anna Huseman; great grandchildren: Arthur, Abby, Wyatt, Peyton, and Clair; her mother, Mildred Hiller; sisters and brothers: Judy and her husband Pete, Janice, Jim and wife Karen, and Jay; sister-in-law, Mary Hiller; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Joanne was preceded in death by her father Edward; her sisters: Beverly and Joyce; her brothers: Johny and Jerry; her mother- and father-in-law Carl and Malinda Huseman; and a sister-in-law, Helen Pranger.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 5, 2009 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell on Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
