Margaret Burgess - Mar. 10, 1921 - Apr. 04, 2009

Margaret Burgess, age 88, died peacefully at her home in Storm Lake, Iowa, on Saturday, April 4, 2009.

Margaret Louise Burgess was born on March 10, 1921 on the family farm in Nemaha, Iowa to Alvey and Mayme (Thomas) Boots. Margaret spent her life in or around Nemaha and Storm Lake, Iowa. She was baptized and joined the Nemaha Methodist Church, Easter Sunday, April 16, 1933. She graduated in 1939 from Delaware Township Consolidated School in Nemaha.

On April 13, 1940, Margaret married Raymond Burgess of Storm Lake in Glenwood, Iowa. Four children were born to this union: Beverly Ann, Nancy, Derald and Peggy. Margaret was employed at what was then Buena Vista College, Faith, Hope and Charity and Spectra Health Care.

Margaret was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake for over 50 years. She was involved with the United Methodist Women, Circle, Project Group, Buena View Garden Club (40 years), 558 Card Club (member for 50 years) and an accomplished porcelain artist. Margaret enjoyed her family and cooking, especially cookies that everyone enjoyed.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Nancy (Richard) Mozga of Des Moines, Iowa; Derald (JoAnn) Burgess of Blair, Nebraska; and Peggy (Donald) Skinner of Des Moines; eight grandchildren: Scott Mozga of Des Moines; Chris (Fontay) Mozga of San Jacinto, California; Jill (Tim) Benoit of Des Moines; Michael Burgess and Coquette (Corey) Jensen both of Omaha, Nebraska; Troy (Leticia) Skinner, Trent (April) Skinner and Traci (Adam) Crabb, all of Des Moines; great grandchildren: Jordon, Anton and Krislyn Mozga; J.J. Dixon; Elizabeth, Brianna, Brenna and Michael Burgess; Zac, Zoey and Zevon Benoit; Maizie and Cora Jensen; Troy Jr., Traden, Isaiah, Trinity, Quinton and Saylah Skinner; Carson Crabb; special friends: Shirley Burmeister and her daughters, Wendy and Michelle, and Phyllis Jackson of Storm Lake; and many more relatives and friends.

Preceding Margaret in death was her husband, infant daughter Beverly Ann, parents, and sisters: Charlotte Pedersen and Kathleen Karls.

Funeral services for Mrs. Burgess will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Friends may call on Monday, April 6 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Hospice, PO Box 309, Storm Lake, IA 50588.
