Margaret Bumann, age 72, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Methodist Manor Care Center in Storm Lake.

Margaret Lorraine Metzger was born May 4, 1936 in Palmer, Iowa to George and Hazel (Cobb) Metzger. She was baptized at United Methodist Church in Palmer. As a youth, she confirmed her faith in the presence of that same congregation. She received her early education in the Palmer School and graduated from Palmer High School in 1954. She continued her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, graduating with a degree in education. She started her teaching career in Battle Creek, Iowa in January of 1956. In the fall of 1957 she accepted a teaching position in the second grade at East Elementary School in Storm Lake. She completed 30 years of teaching in the Storm Lake school system in 1999.

On June 17, 1962, Margaret was united in marriage to Lloyd Bumann at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Their union was blessed with one son, Brian.

Margaret was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and held various offices of the church organizations of which she was a member. She treasured the years she was a member of St. John’s church choir.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 46 years, Lloyd Bumann of Storm Lake; her son, Brian Bumann and wife Nancy of Spencer, Iowa; step-grandsons Zach Richards, Abe Brewer, Caleb Brewer, and Nathan Brewer of Spencer; four great-grandchildren: Jacob, Bryan, Cayden and Gracie; her sister, Shirley Patch and husband Bob and their children, David and Nancy, of Sioux City, Iowa; extended family and a host of friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carol Ann Metzger; her brothers-in-law: Richard Bumann, Luverne Bumann, John Kass, Ernie Meins, Dennis Johnson; and sister-in-law, Lois Kass.

Services for Mrs. Bumann will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 on Thursday, March 26th at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present.
