Monday, June 22, 2009Roberta J. Melvin, age 83, of Newell, died Monday, June 8, 2009 at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
Memorial services for Mrs. Melvin were held on Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. Burial will be in the Bell Center Cemetery in Royal Center, Indiana. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell was in charge of the arrangements. Roberta Jean Blanton was born Jan. 30, 1926 in Logansport, Ind., the daughter of Raymond Oscar and Pegann (Tyler) Blanton. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. Roberta received her education in Logansport, Ind. where she graduated high school.
Roberta married Bud Melvin and together this couple raised four children; Tricia, Pegann, Terry and William.
One of her proudest accomplishments was running "Granny's Sweet Shop." She enjoyed traveling, making quilts, camping and collecting dragons. Roberta had a passion for riding motorcycles and racing cars. She absolutely loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and treasured the time she spent with them.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Tricia Gallaway (friend Michael Lacey) of Reno, Nev. and Pegann (Barry) Pommerville of Newell; her three adopted daughters: Paula Whitlock of Phelan, Calif., Joy Lynn DeVore of Grants Pass, Ore. and Diana Burson of Las Vegas, Nev.; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Melvin of Pueblo, Colo.; her brother, Robert Tyler of Lincoln, Mont.; her 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; extended family and many friends.
Roberta is preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Terry Melvin and William R. Dennis.
