Christopher S. Smith - Jan. 23, 1958 - June 1, 2009

Christopher Sheen Smith, the son of Vince Ray and Rose Ann (Millea) Smith, was born on January 23, 1958 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was raised and received his education there, graduating from high school in 1976. Following graduation, Chris entered into the military on December 27, 1978, serving with the U.S. Air Force. While in the military, Chris married Denise Dixon on March 21, 1981, in Worlingham, England. He also took college courses from the University of Maryland and Minot State in North Dakota where he received a Bachelor’s Degree. On August 31, 2002, after 24 years in the service he was honorably discharged.

Christopher and Denise moved to Peterson, Iowa following his military career. Chris was a teacher at the Sioux Central School and also was the head coach for cross-country and assistant coach for the girl’s track team. He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus when he lived in Minot, ND. Chris also had a passion for running and he participated in the Boston Marathon three times.

Christopher passed away on Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 51. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, James.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Denise of Peterson, IA; his three sons: Mark and his wife, Melissa of Moore, OK, Michael of Minot, ND and Patrick of Peterson, IA; his granddaughters: Kaitlyn, Julia, Madalyn and Alicia; his two brothers: William of Fort Dodge, IA and Sean and his wife, Kris of Urbandale, IA; his four sisters: Cecilia Hawkins of Peterson, IA, Linda Williams and her husband, Gardner of Sierra Vista, AZ, Rebecca Smith of Arizona and Mary Smith of Fort Dodge, IA; other relatives and many friends.
