Floyd "Bud" Otto Dierenfeld, age 89, of Storm Lake, died Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Amvets Post #66 will conducted military rites. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

Floyd Otto Dierenfeld was born Dec. 27, 1919 in Wall Lake, the son of Otto and Clara (Polzein) Dierenfeld. In 1920 he was baptized and on April 15, 1936 he was confirmed at the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake.

Floyd attended grade school in Wall Lake and later earned a degree as an Electronic Technician. He entered into the United States Navy on Nov. 22, 1940 where he served in World War II. Floyd was honorably discharged on Sept. 27, 1945.

On Sept. 5, 1944, Floyd married Wanda Bettin in Wall Lake. This couple was blessed with nine children; Ayric, Rod, Deris, Denise, Jon, David, Teresa, Lisa and Michele.

Floyd was a member of the American Vets Post #66 in Storm Lake. He was an Engineer for Buena Vista County and owned D & D Repair. He later retired in September of 1983.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Ayric (Sally) Dierenfeld of Eugene, Ore.; Rod (Tarfa) Dierenfeld of Fort Dodge; Deris Stetzel of Des Moines; Denise (Bill) Ballou of Storm Lake; Jon Dierenfeld of Oregon; David (Kae) Dierenfeld of Storm Lake; Teresa (Bruce) Miller of Alta; Lisa (Everett) Foweler of Aurelia; Michele (John) Smires of Wall Lake; his sister, Gladys Schaefer of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; 32 grandchildren; 24 great -- great grandchildren; extended family and many friends.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Clara Dierenfeld; his wife Wanda Mae (Bettin) his sisters; Dorthy Terral and Bernice Bettin; and his brother Henry.
