Sadie I. Coatsworth, age 88, of Storm Lake, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.


Sadie Ilene was born to Henry and Eva (Bachman) Peterson on April 10, 1921 in Windom, Minn. She was confirmed in the United Methodist Church in Jeffers, Minn. Sadie lived her childhood years on a farm west of Jeffers graduating from Jeffers High School in 1939.

On April 15, 1939, Sadie was united in marriage to Delbert Coatsworth in Sioux Falls, S.D. They made their home in Hartley, where they farmed and raised their three children: Linda, Bill and Bob.

In 1957, Delbert and Sadie moved to Schaller, and a few years later to Storm Lake, where they still reside.

Sadie treasured her time with family and friends, scrapbooking, family genealogy, playing bridge, helping at church with funerals and putting together cookbooks. Sadie enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing many beautiful items of clothing for her family, grandchildren and great grand children.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 70 years, Del of Storm Lake; her daughter, Linda (Bob) Johnson of Storm Lake; her son, Bob (Nancy) Coatsworth of Columbus, Ind.; her nine grandchildren: Ardine (Randy) Harvey; Barbara Johnson; Connie (Thom) Watts; Del (fiancé, Teri) Johnson; Erica (Todd) Boettcher; Hope Coatsworth; Chrissy (Brian) Sullivan; Jennifer (Lee) Brandsasse; Michelle Coatsworth; her 15 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; extended family and many friends.

Sadie was preceded in death by her parents; her son, William; her sister, Aldena McCormack; her brother-in-law, Virgil; and grandson, Tony Coatsworth.
