Marjorie Jane Gutel, age 86, of Alta, formerly of Storm Lake, passed away on Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center of Storm Lake. A funeral service was held on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009 at the United Methodist Church of Alta with Pastor Terry Pollard officiating. Burial was at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery of Storm Lake. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein was in charge of the arrangements.

Marjorie Jane Gutel was born Jan. 13, 1923 to Martin and Hazel (Peterson) Bonnichsen at Alta where her parents farmed. She attended school at Alta through the 7th grade. Her parents moved to a farm in Hayes Township where she attended Hayes school for three years. Then they moved back north of Alta and she graduated from Fairview school in 1940. She attended Grand Island Business School and came back to Storm Lake where she worked in the office at Schmidt's Lumber Company.

On March 21, 1943 she married Wm. Earl Gutel and they began a lifetime of farming north of Storm Lake. They became parents of two children, Victoria Lee and David Earl.

Marjorie was a life long member of the United Methodist Church and a long time member of the Nokomis Study Club in Alta and the Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Wm. Earl Gutel, of Alta; a daughter, Vicki and her husband Leland Olson, of Marathon; a son, David and his wife Linda Gutel of Storm Lake; five grandchildren, Scott and his wife Karin Olson, of Apple Valley, Minn., Brian and his wife Mandy Olson, of Laurens, Amy and her husband Dave Huebner, of Hawarden, Heather and her husband Andres Torres, of Omaha, Neb., and Brent Gutel, of Kansas City, Mo.; four great grandchildren, Thaddeus and Theron Olson, of Apple Valley Minn., and Addison and Emma Olson, of Laurens; a brother, Vance and his wife Rebecca Bonnichsen, of Lakeland, Fla.; and a nephew Barry and wife Gail Bonnichsen, of Lakeland, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew Dan Bonnichsen.
