Thursday, September 24, 2009Dale H. Otto, age 70, of Storm Lake, passed away on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center of Storm Lake. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church of Storm Lake. Burial will be at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery of Galva. A visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
Dale was born to Harry and Arlene (Lichtenberg) Otto on May 26, 1939 in Cherokee. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Galva. Dale graduated from Galva Community School in 1957 and helped his father farm the family farm. In addition to farming, Dale worked at Hy-Grade and drove truck for Christensen Brothers, Inc. until he retired in 2001.
Dale married Karen Anne Krick on Oct. 25, 1959. That union was blessed with four children, Traci, Brian, Jamie, and Daniel.
Dale later married Marcia Kelly Oct. 21, 1978 in Storm Lake.
Dale loved nature, wildlife, and restoring Ford tractors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter in his younger years. During his later years, he enjoyed sitting on his porch watching boaters, fisherman and wildlife; and spending time at the family farm pond having "weenie roasts".
Survivors include his wife, Marcia of Storm Lake; his children, Traci Billings of Bellevue, Neb., Brian Otto and significant other Brenda Blum of Schleswig, Jamie (Shelley) Otto of Bellevue, Neb., and Dan Otto of Meriden; step-children Kevin Kelly of Storm Lake, Shannon (Michele) Kelly of Storm Lake, Kitty (Randy) Kelly-Gronenthal of Platte Center, Neb., Pat Kelly of New Orleans, La., and Mike (Diane) Kelly of Sioux City; his sister, Marlene Otto of Des Moines; 27 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two aunts, numerous friends and a very special nursing staff.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Arlene, and his step-father Marvin Hunt.
