Nellie Clarine Halverson, the daughter of Bennie A. and Rena (Hanson) Halverson, was born in Barnes Township, near Linn Grove, on March 31, 1915. Nellie lived her youth and received her education in Linn Grove and Sioux Rapids, graduating from Sioux Rapids High School in 1933. Nellie continued her education at Buena Vista College where she received her two year degree in education.

Following her college graduation, Nellie taught school in Arthur, for one year.

Nellie was united in marriage to Oscar L. Sundblad on June 28, 1936, at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, and this couple has been blessed with three children: Corlyss, John and Eileen.

In the early years of their marriage, Nellie and Oscar were engaged in farming for 10 years. Oscar established the Sundblad Truck Line and Nellie returned to teaching. Many of her 20 years of teaching were with first graders. Then she founded the first pre-school in Sioux Rapids and operated it for nine 9 years. Nellie helped many children begin their life long journey of learning and prepared them for an excellent start in life. Nellie and Oscar provided many, many hours of community service to the Sioux Rapids community. They were inseparable and enjoyed 73 years of sharing life together. Two years ago, when Nellie needed more assistance with her health, they moved to Riverview Assisted Living Residence at Spencer.

Nellie had been a faithful and contributing member of the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids where she had taught Sunday School for many years, had served as the Ladies Aid President and she had also been the President of the WALC for several years. One of Nellie's favorite pastimes was reading. Young and old alike were always greeted with Nellie's lovely, warm, uplifting smile.
