Memorial services were held for former Storm Lake resident Bruce W. Barr, age 69, on Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Reardon Funeral Home in Simi Valley, Calif. Mr. Barr passed away suddenly on Monday, Sept. 14, in Simi Valley, Calif. after enduring ongoing health issues since he had an abdominal aneurysm burst in April of 2005. Bruce was born in Washington, D.C. in 1940, the son of Richard and Doloris Barr.

His childhood was spent in Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake High School in 1958. Following high school, he enlisted in the Navy where he served his country for four years.

Bruce moved to California in 1965 where he began working for General Telephone, Co. He then worked for Capitol Records for a short period before taking a job with Universal Studios (MCA Records Division) where he worked for the next 32 years until he retired in 2001.

Bruce coached both of his sons in soccer for many years, and also coached his granddaughter Karina. His favorite thing to do the past 15 years was anything involving Karina. He loved her dearly, and then, when his grandson Jaxon was born in December of 2008, he expanded that love to include him.

He also enjoyed keeping in touch with his former classmates and his Navy buddies. He was so glad that his health permitted him to return to Storm Lake last fall to participate in his 50-year class reunion.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judie; His sons Jason (Jaimie) and Michael; Daughter Brenda; Grandchildren Karina, Jaxon, Ashley and Dominic; And sister and her husband Claudia and Harvey Lichtenberg; Plus other family members and many friends.
