William "Bill" Boger Nov. 23, 1927 - Sept. 27, 2009

William "Bill" Boger, age 81, of Storm Lake, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, surrounded by family at his home in Storm Lake, after a brief but valiant fight against cancer.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept.30, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

William Richard Boger, son of William and Alice (Nepper) Boger was born Nov. 23, 1927, in Danbury. He was baptized in 1927 at St. Patrick's Church in Danbury. William graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1945.

Bill served his country as a career non-commissioned officer in the United States Air Force, entering on Aug. 6, 1947 and attaining the rank of Master Sergeant before he was honorably retired on Aug. 31, 1967. Bill's military service spanned the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. His military decorations included the Air Force Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star Device. In his post-military career, Bill served the Storm Lake community in the United States Postal Service for 21 years.

On Oct. 7, 1950, Bill was united in marriage to Joanne C. Gerdes in Champaign, Ill. This union was blessed with five children: Michael, Ronald, Joni, Thomas and Patti.

Bill was a life member of the American Legion in Lake View, and VFW Post #6172 of Alta. He enjoyed traveling with Joanne, especially bus tours and trips to Texas. Bill had a passion for woodworking and coin collecting. He also enjoyed playing dominoes and card games with his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joanne of Storm Lake; his children: Michael of Cedar Falls; Ronald of San Antonio, Tex.; Joni (Allan) Walquist of Linn Grove; Thomas (Cynthia Grossman) of San Antonio, Tex.; his grandchildren: Alysia (Walter) Hess of Omaha, Neb.; Ryan (Roxanne) Boger of San Antonio, Tex.; Brandon (Donnette) Boger of Wanamingo, Minn.; Gavin Boger of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; Tollie (Brandon) Turnquist of Storm Lake; Carrie (Michael) Walsh of Newell; Katie Walquist of Ames; Aaron Boger of San Antonio, Tex.; Stacey Grossman of San Antonio, Tex.; Brett (Candace) Kleespies of Parkersburg; Whitney Boger of Dallas, Tex.; Christopher Grossman of San Antonio, Tex.; his great- grandchildren: Justice, Declan and Ayden Boger; Ethan Boger; DeShon Buchanan; Brock and Connor Turnquist; Jaxson Kleespies; his brothers: Roger (Cheri) Boger of Windsor, Mo.; James Boger of Denison; his sisters: Shirley McBride of Kenosha, Wis.; Lois Catero of Mesa, Ariz.; Marjorie (LuVern) Rydberg of Storm Lake; his brother-in-law, Kenneth Gerdes of LeMars; extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patti Devine, his father and mother, brother, Kenneth Boger, and sisters, Joyce Johnson and Carole Boger.
