Lorraine Schramm, age 75, of Albert City, and formerly of Storm Lake, died Oct. 4, 2009 at Pleasant View Home in Albert City.
Memorial service will be Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will be Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Lorraine M. Schramm, daughter of Herman and Ruth (Anderson) Schramm was born June 29, 1934 in Storm Lake. She attended grade school in Storm Lake and Jr. High in Sulphur Springs. In 1952, she graduated from Storm Lake High School where she was the class Valedictorian. Lorraine furthered her education at Morningside College in Sioux City, and Buena Vista College in Storm Lake where she earned the degree of Bachelor of Arts, graduating in 1972 with honors. She received further education at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

As a junior high school student she was fascinated by the pipe organ at church. After taking organ lessons while still in high school, Lorraine substituted for Sunday services, played for funerals and during the summer. She served the Storm Lake United Methodist Church for several years as organist and children's choir director.

Lorraine wrote her first composition for organ in 1961. Later she wrote alternate hymn accompaniments and organ solos based on hymns, as well as several choral introits and prayer responses for choir. Her faith in God was very strong and of greatest importance in her life. She had said that music can reach you as nothing else can, and she desired to express the awe and majesty of God that she felt as she played the organ for worship services.

Following graduate studies, she served Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake as organist. During the 1980's and 1990's she owned and operated a studio, Music Plus, in downtown Storm Lake where she gave piano instruction and provided music literature for students and teachers. Lorraine moved to Albert City in 1996 and was organist at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City for many years.

Lorraine also had a great love for animals, enjoying the companionship of many pets including most recently her dog, Sammie, who passed away this summer.

Left to cherish her memory are her aunts, Verla Anderson of Storm Lake and Effie Fisher of Rapid City, SD; also first cousins living in the area: Roger (Judy) Anderson, JoAnn (Larry) Pyle, Don (Maxine) Schramm, Inez Eimers, Madeline James, Kenneth (Barbara) Hartje, Carolyn (Ron) Hinners all of Storm Lake, and Judy Hinkeldey of Alta; many first cousins in other states, as well as extended family and friends.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Ruth Schramm.
