Wilma Mae Ling, age 84, of Alta, died Oct. 9, 2009, at the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center of Aurelia. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 at 2:30 P.M. at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral home of Alta with Rev. D. Duane Olson officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.

Wilma Mae Madsen was born May 1, 1925, in Alta, to Carl and Hazel (Lundy) Madsen. She graduated from Fairview high school. Wilma was married to D. Leon Ling on June 7, 1945 at the Lutheran Church in Newell. During their life together they lived in numerous locations while calling Alta, home for more than 40 years. Wilma was employed at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake and the Alta Pharmacy in Alta. Most of her life was spent caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Wilma enjoyed flowers, writing poems, and watching the birds at the feeders hanging outside of her kitchen window. She was a Member of the Eastern Star for several years. Wilma also enjoyed following the St. Louis Cardinals.

She was survived by her husband, D. Leon Ling; son, Tom and wife Darlene, their two children, Aaron and Tyler from Glenwood. Other survivors include her granddaughter, Kristen Nelson and husband Neil; and her beloved great-grandson, Koy from Polk City. Wilma is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Preceding Wilma in death were her parents; son Daniel; two sisters, Ruth and Ferne; and two brothers, Bud and Bill.

Memorials can be made to the National Osteoporosis Foundation.
