Thursday, October 15, 2009Margaret Yender, age 93, of Early, passed away on Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m, Thursday, Oct. 15th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, with Father Dale Koster and Deacon Butch Stone officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
Margaret Vivian (Merten) Yender was born Oct. 18, 1915, south of Early, the daughter of Herman and Marie (Skork) Merten. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early of which she was a faithful member her entire life.
On Nov. 28, 1939, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Yender of Early at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They were blessed with six children: Louis, Joseph, James, Mary Ann, Robert and Franklin.
Gilbert passed away Sept. 26, 1961, at the age of 50. Margaret continued to make her home on the farm and raised her six children. She enjoyed her garden and making cinnamon rolls to share with her family. She was a skilled needlewoman, making many beautiful afghans, doilies, and quilts for her family and also selling them at craft bazaars. She often made up her own patterns if someone wanted something special made.
She is survived by her children: Louis (Velma) Yender of Arkansas, Joseph Yender, James (JoAnne) Yender, Mary Ann Brinkman and Robert Yender all of Early, and Frank (Sheila) Yender of Nemaha; 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Clela Miller of Storm Lake; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gilbert; six sisters: Anna Buehler, Elma Woehl, Katherine Teubert, Lorene Rix, Dorothy Knight, and Elsie Merten; three brothers: Herman Merten, Jr., Herbert and Edwin Merten; son-in-law David Brinkman; and grandson Kenneth Evans.
