Joseph (Joe) Mechura, age 66, of Las Vegas, Nev., passed way after a short illness at Mountain View Hospital. He could not recover and the Lord called him home on Oct. 12, 2009.

Joe was born on Jan. 1, 1943 to Anton and Magdalena (Schram) Mechura in Buck Grove. He attended school in Charter Oak, graduating in 1961.

On Jan. 5, 1963, Joe was united in marriage to Carol Higgins at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children: Michael and twins Richard and Victoria.

The family moved from Charter Oak to Storm Lake in 1970 where Joe continued to work for Mid American Energy as a line crew foreman. He retired from this company after completing 32 years.

In 1997, Joe and Carol moved to Las Vegas where they had always said they would live out their retirement days. At the time of passing, Joe was delivering parts for Autozone Commercial Department part time. He liked talking to people and he loved to relax by playing video poker at the local casinos. He also enjoyed motor home travel.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 46 years, Carol of Las Vegas; His son Michael of Boone; Son Richard (Rick) of Storm Lake; Daughter Victoria (Vicky) Petsch of Las Vegas. Also, his grandchildren, Samantha, Brooke, Paige, Ty, Nichole and Curtis.

He is also survived by his brothers; Butch and Marion of Sattellite Beach, Fla.; Tony and Paulette of Arlington, Tex.; Lavern of California; Sisters Teresa Zeller of Las Vegas and Rita and Gene Gessert of Springfield, Ill.; Sister-in-law Jean of St. Louis, Mo.; Brother-in-law Ronald Higgins of Grinnell; Mark and Julia Higgins of Newton, and sister-in-law Janet and Bruce Brown of Wenatchee, Wash. As well as many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold and Gerald, a sister-in-law Sally, and a nephew, Danny.
