Melvin A. Delp, age 81, of Storm Lake, died on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin Allen Delp, the son of David and Laura (Van Pelt) Delp, was born in Storm Lake, on Nov. 8, 1927. Melvin lived his youth and received his education at Storm Lake. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Melvin entered the service on Feb. 4, 1946 and was honorably discharged on April 11,1947. He served with the 7th Medical Battalion.

He was united in marriage to Norma Bice on Aug. 11, 1949, in Worthington, Minn., and this couple was blessed with three children: Paula, Beverly, and Steven. During his career, Mel worked in all the departments of the HyGrade plant in Storm Lake. He retired in 1981 and then worked in the construction business. He loved to build things and he constructed three homes for his family. Mel is remembered by his family and friends as an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening, camping, and spending time outdoors. He loved his family very much and cherished the time he could spend with his nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Mel's memory will be treasured by family: his wife of 60 years, Norma of Storm Lake; his children: Paula and Steven Briner of Newell; Beverly Delp of Storm Lake; Steven and Koreen Delp of Alta; his grandchildren: Amanda, Austin, Carrie, Gena, Jessica, Meghann, Patrick, Stephanie, and Trenton; his great grandchildren: Caleb, Carlee, Cayanne, Chance, Damian, Grace, Haylee, Hope, Kayleigh, and Lucas; three brothers: Everett and Edgar Delp both of Storm Lake, and Wayne Delp of Hobe Sound, Fla.; one sister, Laureen Brunning of Newell; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Earl, Ivan, and Richard.
