Tuesday, October 20, 2009Mary J. Mogster, age 97, of Rochester, Minn., and formerly of Sioux Rapids, died on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at the Samaritan Bethany House on 8th in Rochester.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The family has requested that memorials be sent to the Sioux Rapids Historical Society or the Chapel fund at the Samaritan Bethany Home on 8th in Rochester. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Josephine Mogster, the daughter of Randsom and Thea (Rosseland) Mogster, was born in Sioux Rapids, on June 25, 1912. She lived her youth and received her education in Sioux Rapids, graduating from Sioux Rapids High School. Mary was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids.
During her professional career, Mary served as a supervisor and trainer for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was in that position for 30 years. Mary was active in her community and served on several boards, including the cemetery board and she was a member of the Pioneer for The Telephone Company. She enjoyed traveling to Norway to visit family and she also looked forward to their trips to the United States to stay with her. She also traveled with her friends on other tours. Mary's family was so important to her and she cherished the times she could spend with them. Mary's other interests included participating in a Study Club, playing bridge and other card games, knitting, and doing other beautiful stitchery. She was also a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her family: her niece, Judy Altizer Lewison of Des Moines; a niece-in-law, Adele Spavin of Rochester, Minn.; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; other extended family and her many friends in Sioux Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Carl O. Mogster; her sister, Ruth Mogster Altizer; and her nephew, Richard Carl Spavin.
