Donald D. Greene, age 83, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 15 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Donald D. Greene was born March 1, 1926 in Cherokee, the son of Truman and Dorothy (Higgins) Greene. Don grew up on a farm near Galva, and the family later moved to Storm Lake where he graduated from High School in 1944. He served in the Pacific with the US Army during WWII. After the war, he met Betty Carlson and they were married Oct. 15, 1950. Don worked as a lineman for Buena Vista County REC. He was called to military service again during the Korean War. Don had been a member of the Storm Lake Volunteer Fire Department and also served as Assistant Chief. He also volunteered for the Iowa Blood Center. Don retired as Assistant Job Training and Safety Instructor for the Iowa Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives in 1991. Don worked with the REC's for nearly 45 years.

Don enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, playing a round of golf or just working in the yard. He loved spending time with family and friends and had a great love for animals.

Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty; his sons, Steven Greene of Moscow and Thomas (Janet) Greene of Norwalk; his daughter, Marti (Gary) Adkisson of Des Moines; brother, Al (Donna) Greene of Okoboji; grandchildren, Shane (Kelly) Greene, Staci Greene, Corby Greene, Gina Adkisson, Elle Greene and Tommy Greene and six great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Lineman's Course, Northwest Iowa Community College, Sheldon, Iowa, 51202.
