Dorothy F. Sievers, age 96, of Storm Lake, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 at her home in Storm Lake.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Storm Lake was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Florence Kruse, the daughter of August and Emma (Mueller) Kruse, was born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 27, 1913. She lived her youth and received her education in Chicago. Following her education, Dorothy moved with her family to the Storm Lake and Hanover vicinity where she was a housekeeper for homes in the area.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Martin Carl Sievers on Feb. 1, 1931, at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. This union was blessed with three children: Virginia, Diane, and Martin, Jr. Following their marriage, Martin and Dorothy farmed near Rembrandt in Grant Township. During the World War II era, Martin received training as a blacksmith and operated his own business. He later sold his blacksmith shop and returned to farming until moving to Storm Lake in 1952 where he was employed as a welder with Pollard's. Martin suffered a crippling stroke in 1955 and in order to help care for her family, Dorothy took nurse's aide training. She cared for patients in that capacity at the Storm Lake Hospital for nearly 25 years and enjoyed her work very much. Martin died on Dec. 12, 1995.

She has been a faithful member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Storm Lake, since 1952. Dorothy was gifted in doing needlework and crocheting and she has made many beautiful afghans for her family. Fishing was a favorite pastime of Dorothy and Martin's and they enjoyed fishing trips to South Dakota and other locations in Clayton and Diane's motorhome. The highlight of Dorothy's travel adventures was the five week trip she took with Clayton, Diane, and Virginia when they visited Colorado and the National Parks, journeying up to Canada and visiting Lake Louise and other beautiful Canadian scenery and returning to the western United Sates and traveling along the California coast and visiting the redwood forest and other points of interest.

Those who will always cherish her memory include her children: Virginia Freeney of Storm Lake; Diane (Clayton) Meeker of Council Bluffs; Martin, Jr. (Linda) Sievers of Graettinger; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 7 great - great grandchildren; one sister, Norma Lindief of Minong, Wisc.; her sister-in-law, Marcella Radke of Storm Lake; other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin; one brother; and two sisters.
