Ruth Mooney, age 97, of Nemaha, passed away Nov. 17, 2009, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Nemaha Cemetery. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Sac City is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth Parker was born on March 3, 1912, to parents Alexander and Mary (Richardson) Parker in New Truxton, Mo. She lived with her family there for two years until they moved to Schaller where they also lived for two years. They then relocated to Nemaha where she lived most of her life. She attended grade school at Delaware Township School where she also graduated from high school. Ruth and her family attended the United Methodist Church in Nemaha. She was baptized in 1922 and became a member of the church in 1923.

Ruth met her lifelong companion in Marvin Mooney. They were married at the Nemaha Parsonage on Jan. 30, 1929, and were blessed with four children: Dale, Donna, Dick, and Damon. Ruth took care of her family and supported her husband in their farm operation. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing, and playing cards. Her family treasures the afghans she made for each child and grandchild. She also loved to watch the Hawkeyes, and was instrumental in organizing the local Women's Federated Club. She was very active in the Methodist Church holding several offices through the years, including UMW Treasurer of the Fort Dodge District. Ruth lived in the Nemaha area for 73 years before moving to Wel-Life in Alta in 2002. She lived there until her most recent move to the Good Samaritan Center in 2008. She enjoyed a long life and will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children: Dale (Bev) Mooney of Sac City; Donna (Vic) Novak of Anamosa; Dick (June) Mooney of Storm Lake; and Damon (Pam) Mooney of Nemaha; grandchildren: Joan (Bob) Holt of Fremont, Neb.; Vicki (Jon) Russell of Cedar Rapids; Patrick (Julia) Mooney of Storm Lake; Pamela (Steve) Berg of Storm Lake; Marc (Julie) Mooney of Yankton, S.D.; Lori (Jason) Lamping of Johnston; great-grandchildren: Brooke Holt, Andy and Amy Berg, Elizabeth and Mary Kate Mooney, Benjamin, Samuel and Claire Mooney, and Jayna Lamping; sister Nadine Cavanaugh of Omaha, Neb., step-sister Ruth Mohr of Storm Lake, sister-in-law Velma Peterson of Storm Lake, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband Marvin; her parents Alexander and Mary; granddaughter Brenda Mooney; Marvin's parents: Harry and Daisy Mooney; step-father John Pruett; sister Genevieve Wedeking; brothers-in-law: Don Dlugosch, Edward Cavanaugh, Wesley Peterson, and E.H. Wedeking; and step-brother-in-law Pete Mohr.
