Cheryl was born in Norfolk, Va. on May 14, 1944. She was the eldest of four children to Kendrick "Bud" Wise and Esther (Dettmann) Wise. In 1958 they moved back to the family farm south of Lytton, where Cheryl graduated from Lytton High School in 1962. Cheryl continued her studies and graduated from Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo.

While in Missouri, Cheryl met and fell in love with Richard W. Straub of Fairfax, Mo. Richard and Cheryl married on Aug. 26, 1966, and in 1971 their daughter Christine was born. After living in New York for a few years, Cheryl and Richard divorced, and in 1981 Cheryl moved back to Iowa and settled in Sac City. She began her lifelong teaching career in Missouri in 1966, and spent the last 28 years teaching for Sac City, WLVA and East Sac County Schools. She also led GED classes out of her home, and was devoted to helping adult students earn their high school diploma through the Adult Literacy Program.

Cheryl was a loving and caring mother, sister, friend and aunt. Above all she was a passionate grandmother. Time spent with friends and family was precious to her, and she cherished the memories from her many trips overseas visiting her daughter and grandchildren. Her nieces and nephews also held a special place in her heart.

Cheryl was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sac City. She also enjoyed judging flowers at the Sac County Fair. She was active both at a local and state level in AA for 27 years, and she served as a mentor and lifeline for many of her friends within the organization.

Wise of Osceola, Kendrick M. Wise Jr. and wife Karen of Lytton, and Robert "Rob" Wise and Cathie of Rockwell City; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and many extended family members.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Esther Wise.
