Willemina "Minnie" De Man, age 83, of Storm Lake (formally of Alta) passed away Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community of Storm Lake. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec.8, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church of Alta. Burial will be at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery of Storm Lake. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of arrangements.

Minnie Burgers De Man was born on Feb. 3, 1926 in Bennekom, Netherlands, to Derk and Celia Burgers. Minnie attended school in the Netherlands through the seventh grade until war broke out and they were under rule of the Germans for four years.

On Dec. 27, 1946, Minnie was united in marriage to Henry De Man Sr. To this union they were blessed with seven children; John, Dick, Betsy, Henry Jr., Willie, Celia and David.

In 1950, Minnie and Henry immigrated to the United States with their two children. They took residence in Rock Valley, on a farm. After living on the farm in Rock Valley, Minnie and Henry moved to Marcus, then to Cherokee, and finally to Alta where she lived many years before moving to Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. She lived there for ten years.

While living in Alta, she worked at Vilas and Company for thirteen years before having a stroke and being forced to quit. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alta. She enjoyed planting flowers and crocheting.

Survivors include two daughters, Betsy and husband Kenneth Lenz of Alta, and Celia and husband Charlie Miskevitch of Arlington, Texas; five sons, John and wife Vickie De Man of Alta, Dick De Man of Storm Lake, Henry and wife Chris De Man of Storm Lake, Willie De Man of Alta, and David and wife Cheryl De Man of rural Rembrandt; nine grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; two brothers, Dick Burgers of Doon, and Gilbert and Wilma Burgers of Rock Valley; and one sister in law, Clarene Burgers.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; one brother; and one great grandchild, Cody Behrens.
