Donna M Straw, 83, of Independence, IA, died on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, IA.

Donna was born on December 10, 1940, in Mount Auburn, IA, the daughter of Walter L. and Maud R. (Hatfield) Hertzberg. She grew up in Independence, IA, and attended the Independence school. On May 14, 1964, Donna married Robert D. Straw in Galena, IL, and they made their home in Independence, IA. Donna was a stay-at-home Mom and loved taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren. She attended many of her grandchildren's school events and enjoyed cheering them on throughout their lives.

Donna was an avid bowler and competed in the Independence Bowling League for many years. Her team’s name was named “High Hopes,” and they went on to compete at the state tournament several times.

She is survived by two daughters, Roxanne (Dwayne) Schiller, Stout, IA, and Meshell (Jim) Hawkins, Independence, IA, a son-in-law, Jeff Smock, Ryan, IA, her grandchildren; Brooklyn (Robert) Hamilton, Trenton Schiller, Whitney (Chad Harris) Schiller, Britney (Alex) Ruskusky, Derrick (Joanna) Klever, Jordon (Christina) Smock, Bret (Stephanie) Hawkins, Alyssa (Nicholas) Holt, and Kody Slife, and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Maud Hertzberg, her husband Robert Straw, a daughter, Justine Smock, and a son Jeff Straw.
