Anna Mae Dolan, 97, of Independence, formerly of Winthrop, Iowa died Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Independence, IA.

Anna Mae was born on May 13, 1927, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of William and Kathryn (Behan) Moroney. She grew up on a farm south of, IA, and attended Middle Field Township No. 6 Country School. In 1944, Anna Mae graduated from Lamont High School and went on to start teaching at Country School No. 6 in rural Masonville until 1948.

On June 15, 1948, she married Leo I. Dolan at the Immaculate Conception Church in Masonville, IA, and they made their home on a farm in rural Monti. In 1957, they later moved onto the Dolan Family farm southwest of Masonville, IA. Anna Mae loved taking care of her family. When her children were old enough to go to school, she worked as a substitute teacher for many years, and as an Associate at Area 7.

Anna Mae liked to stay busy, and over the years she was an active member of the Winthrop C&C Club, the Buffalo Creek Golf Course, and the Rosary Society at Immaculate Conception and St. Patrick’s Church. She loved spending time outside whether it was taking a walk around Winthrop or tending to the flowers in her garden.

She is survived by her six children: Dan (Jean Ann) Dolan, Castle Rock, CO, Mary Beth (Paul) Simpson, St. Charles, MO, Jane Taylor, St. Louis, MO, Barbara (Bill) Nelson, Geneva, Il, William “Bill” (Kay) Dolan, Independence, IA, and Mark (Cathy) Dolan, Hoover, AL, sixteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a special niece LuAnn Reck.

Anna Mae was preceded in death by her husband Leo Dolan, her parents, William and Kathryn Moroney, a son-in-law, Jerome Taylor, a daughter-in-law, Jane Dolan, two great-grandsons, Dolan Stafford and Nash Dolan, two brothers, Francis and Bob Moroney, and a sister, Betty Reck.

The family would like to invite you to a Visitation which will be held from 2 to 5 PM Sunday, June 2, 2024, at the Reiff Family Center in Winthrop, Iowa.

A Rosary will be said at 1:45 PM and a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 5 PM on Sunday.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday. June 3rd at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Winthrop, IA. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Masonville, IA.

In lieu of flowers please make memorials out to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Valley Hospice, or the Winthrop C&C Club.
